Granny O'Grimm's Distorted Tale

Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty is an Oscar nominated Irish short film written and performed by Kathleen O’Rourke and directed by Nicky Phelan.

The animation centers on a grandmother – Granny O’Grimm – telling her visibly freaked out granddaughter a warped and overly personal interpretation of the classic fairy tale ‘Sleeping Beauty’.

Granny O’Grimm gets more erratic as she narrates, inserting her own hilariously twisted views on society while being completely oblivious to her granddaughters growing terror.

This short is enjoyable because fairy tales are about as shallow as it gets so it’s always interesting (and most of the time funny) to watch social commentary woven into them to dispel that shallowness.

Although it’s along the lines of Shrek it’s much cruder in a sense – definitely not meant for kids, but it will put a smile on your face.
