Can you say MOOO? (Zoo review for Kids)

Zoo Review (Kids VS)

Can you say roar, mooo and quack? What sounds are these? That’s right! They are all sounds made by animals.

We can’t bring home a cow or a monkey, because mommy won’t be too pleased right? So why not make a trip to the Zoo. It’s convenient, fun, affordable and you will get to see all the animals.

  • Zoo Negara is located at Hulu Kelang, 68000, Ampang, Selangor Darul Ehsan.
  • It cost RM 9 (with MyKad) and RM 18 (without MyKad) for kids.
  • Many flavors of ice cream and Malaysian food are available if you get a little hungry.

These are lions? No way! They are giraffes! Or Zirafah in Malay.
You can recognize them by their long slender necks, which surprisingly only have 7 bones!
Just like human necks.
Other than that did you know, they only sleep for 4 hours a day? Don't you try that now.
And also, giraffes give birth standing up. Cool!

The above animal looks sort of like Bambi right?
Well, close enough but its actually a Mousedeer or Sang Kancil(Malay).
Coming from the same family as deers, the Sang Kancil is the tiniest of the lot.

Remember the story of Parameswara? According to history books, one of his dogs cornered  a mousedeer during a hunt. Refusing to be caught the little Mousedeer kicked the dog on its nose.
Because of this incident, Parameswara was very impressed at the bravery of this tiny animal.

He saw it as a good omen for Malacca

The animal posing so serenely above is a Camel or Unta(Malay).

A camel is docile and caring which is what makes the camel a very loved animal to us humans.
However, if ill-treated a camel can become very hot tempered and stubborn.

You see, just like humans, camels too can retaliate.
They are one of the only animals able to survive in harsh conditions such as desserts.
A camel can go without water or food for a long time.

Camel's store water in their humps, which makes them excellent for traveling in desserts for long periods of time. It can go without water for up to 7 weeks!

Amazing isn't it? So kids, remember to respect the camel.

Here we have a Tapir, its name is derrived from a Brazilian Indian language meaning "thick".
Referring to the Tapirs thick hide.

Despite its size and appearance, Tapirs are actually plant and insect eaters.
They are also able to run really fact to avoid predators.

Tapir's are really cute and look like big stuffed animals. So much so, you want to run up and give them a big warm hug!

And one more thing, Tapirs are not related to pigs, but to horses and rhinos.

That's all for now kids, but do remember to drop by the Zoo for a visit soon.
