Shopping; A phenomenon

Hello Readers,

We apologize for the spelling mistake of last week’s column.

Just a short flash back as last week, the column was on narcissism and how each and every one of us has at least a teeny weeny bit of narcissism in us.

We preen and prod ourselves into make up and clothes that may not be the most comfortable, but pay their dues when we turn up looking fantastic!

So let’s talk fashion.
As we all know, Paris, Milan, Toyko and New York. What’s synonymous with these few names? Have any clue? Well yes, my clever darlings; its fashion!

We love and look up to fashion, but the truth is that we are at least 3months late in the game. What we think is fashion, might just be last season’s cast off’s for some.

And furthermore, as narcissist; we absolutely adore fashion. Of any kind, mind you. Fashion which we all get through shopping! Shopping isn’t such a bad hobby to have really; you walk and end up exercising. Endorphin levels increase and we feel happier. To top it off, you are contributing to the economy. True that saving is good, but a little shopping for the money savvy you is totally fine once in awhile.

Here in Malaysia, we may not be the worlds most fashionable, nor are we the richest nation. But somehow, shopping here; is a phenomenon. Malls that open from 10am to 10pm, sometimes till 11pm!
Why? All so we can shop and spend. However dear narcissist, take a few notes before you step out.

This author thinks that is awesome, and I’ll probably be in need of another shopping buddy soon enough. There’s no such thing as too much for fashion, unless of course, you turn into Rebecca Bloomwood from Confessions of a Shopaholic and need to attend S.A (shopaholics anonymous).

Number one, shopping and enjoying yourselves in the process is great, but of course freeze those credit cards. They are always bad choice. Remember, you have a choice. The minute you loose control and go swipe crazy, you are finished. So chuck them in a block of ice, flush them down the toilet. The golden rule here is to always make sure you spend what you can. Best if you use nothing but cash.

Secondly, bring a recycled bag. Helping the economy is one thing. Now you can also help the earth. Bring a bag, use less plastic. If you start now, others will follow suit. I once had a cashier put my buys in a plastic bag and then into my recycled bad. I hear you say “Whaatt!” as well. If your cashier does this, make sure to point it out and say it isn’t needed. It would seem as if they were saving company resources and the earth too. Win-win situation? Oh yes!

Thirdly and lastly, we all love to buy pretty things, but think twice. Ask yourselves these 3 simple questions.

One, do you need it?
Two, is the item worth the price?
Three, can I afford this?

If you say no to at least 2 of those questions, my advice would be.
Put.It.Down and Forget.About.It.
Just walk out of the store.
There’s nothing wrong with that.

Keep That In Mind Loves!

Signing off till next week,

xoxo Amelia.C
