I'm free! ...not in Malaysia, when I'm home.

In today’s news we see Philip Lim, who has served his sentence in Australia for 24 years approximately for murdering heart surgeon Victor Chang, is about to be detained by our local police upon his arrival tonight, according to Australian media reports.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said that our police will only detain him based on what they have within their purview and laws. Yet he also mentioned that there is not any reason for Philip Lim to be detained unless he commits a new crime, because he has done his sentence in Australia.

How vague all these statements could be? And the first question which comes in mind right away after reading the news is, why would Philip Lim be detained if he’s already completed his jail sentence? And upon his arrival back home to Malaysia? 24 years of black and white days in jail, and not even a short moment of peace when he gets home. Cruel.

Pardon my naivety, the law is the law. He’s a free man who completed his sentences. But I guess a call to report to the police headquarters would do enough than detaining him, again, once he touches home.

Kaze.
